For the hardcore science nerd, its worth the trip to see it.

Very interesting place, nice visitor center and gift shop. The drive up is also very pretty..

Pretty neat place, but few of the telescopes seemed decommissioned and you were not allowed to see the telescopes in person. Gift shop/self guided tour was neat with many educational screens/displays! Drive out was very picturesque!

After being at the Solar Observatory a few times with my family. We had the chance to see astronomers and interns working on the optics for one of the telescopes, they even came over to us to explain a bit of what they do, how, and why. It is generally very interesting to see. My only recommendation, do not go if the weather forecast seems to be grim with cloudy weather, winds, and rain because it will prove to be a waste of time due to the telescopes not being able to see and therefore being closed. Plan for clear sky's, calm winds, and sunny weather.

Long haired Guy at gift shop was very nice and VERY helpful with my questions!

Great views of White Sands National Monument and the Tularosa Basin. Facilities are not kept up as can be expected but the walk is nice.

The visitors center has a display area where they explain a bit of the history of astronomy, planetary movements, and the science behind phenomenon of the stars. Included they have a little gift shop to purchase items from such as shirts, posters, name tags and so forth.

One of the best viewpoints of the Tularosa Basin can be accessed here. Take the self guided tour was from the Visitors center out to the scenic vista. The drive out to Sunspot along the scenic byway is beautiful. The visitors also has clean restrooms.
